Memories

I wanted to share some more pictures from Uganda. Though these pictures seem random, each picture has a memory - one that I will forever hold in my heart. A memory of a person I long to be with. A memory of a place I want to run to. A memory of the life I used to live. I'm learning that I can be happy and thrive where I am; but that doesn't mean I'm completely letting go of the memories. There is freedom to miss what used to be - holding tightly to the memories - and to be content where I am now. Being present here doesn't mean I lose a special part of me; growth doesn't mean that the old me dies. Uganda will always have a special place in my heart - even though my wings are spreading now. I could not have become the butterfly I am now if I wasn't a caterpillar first. If I keep looking back, I will miss the blessing God has for me here.

We had an outing to our multi-story, indoor market and played extreme hide-n-seek with some of our village friends followed by a trip to my favorite place in town - the dairy (sells fresh milk, yogurt and ice cream)!

Every once in a while, the Trade Show (African version of the fair) comes to town. We always take a couple friends and spend the afternoon at the Trade Show.

Lydia and I recorded an original Christmas single with a couple of friends followed by a shopping trip. It was lots of fun, and the song turned out great!

  1. Grace, you express yourself beautifully in words and with photos! Your photos and memories made me smile!

I love how you're grateful for what God has given to you and done for in the past, but you're concentrating on what God has for you now and tomorrow.

  2. Beautiful pictures accompany your beautiful memories.
You are right, no need to erase the past to create a present or a future, you integrate it all into who you are now and who you are becoming. And you seem to be headed in that direction. We haven´t all moved across continents, but all of us at some point have wished we could return to a time and/or place where we were happy or content or comfortable...
