Many people ask me what growing up as a missionary kid was like. As part of my processing journey, I have looked back on old photos from Uganda. Here are some pictures in somewhat chronological order of my life in Uganda:
(apparently, she wasn't too happy with me)
We used to visit a school for blind students. (Whatever was happening, I was clearly very invested.)
Fishing on Lake Kyoga
(everybody back up!)
Sipi Falls
Going to town (my Aunt Jenna came to visit).
Our Indian friends.
Homeschool / Nap time :)
Bike rides
Lots of traveling
(I'm serious when I say I'm not made for winter)
If my world could be captured in one picture this would be it. Following my parents (dad) as they do ministry in different villages. Living life curiously in a world that perfectly fostered my big imagination.
Lots of visiting people in their homes.
Missionary gatherings - friends became cousins, i knew them better than i knew my real cousins.
Playing games with friends. We couldn't always understand each other, but we didn't need to. We communicated in our own way.
Oh, how I miss those days - I was care-free of the pressures of life. I lived in the present and never thought I would leave.

All the little kids come running from the bushes and garden when they see us walking down the path.
I want to end with a song that one of my friends wrote. She is an adult third culture kid and has a gift of putting into words all the feelings and thoughts that many TCKs hold. I've been asking a lot of questions lately as I process all the years of living between two worlds. I was just talking with a close friend recently, thinking through all these questions. My friend beautifully puts all these questions to music. Click the link below to listen!
So cute!
