Education Unlocked

Welcome to Christ the Answer Nursery and Primary School (CTA)!

Walking into each classroom, the students will stand up and welcome you (pictured below). They will remain standing until you allow them to sit. The students are extremely respectful, due to the dicipline they receive at school. School is not an easy place for most students. The education is dicipline based. As if studying in fear isn't hard enough, school is taught in English. Therefore, every student is required to learn English in order to succeed. There is little discussion about the topics being learned. It is simply copying every word the teacher writes down. However, the difference between public schools and CTA, is that the teachers of Christ the Answer are dedicated to teaching their students through a Christian worldview. Many of the teacher became Christians through the teachers Biblestudy at CTA. They are then equipped to build the student's faith. Each day, the children that attend CTA, recieve religious classes as well as a school wide chapel. Each class memorizes Bible verses and Christian songs.

The students of CTA love to have their picture taken. There are hundreds of beautiful faces for me to photograph; however, only a handful will be displayed here.

As long as it has four walls and a roof, a classroom is considered adequate for teaching in. Therefore, most of the classrooms and CTA are still unfinished. Regardless, the children don't complain.

Recently, my family gave school bags to many of the kids that attend CTA. Pictured above is a young girl in early elementary school. She is excited about her new bag and proud to show it off.

A group of young boys eagerly hold up their matching bags. Something as small as a bag makes many kids feel valued. Many children here make it their goal to make it through highschool, a goal some that only sometimes becomes reality. Being provided with a school bag, makes their goal a little more managable.

During free time, most of the boys play soccer. Young men here can spend hours playing or watching soccer. Girls, however, will stand on the side lines to watch. Otherwise, they will play other cultural games.
The school made this hand ball goal for the kids to play with during free time as well.

Despite the hardships school presents, education is valued and desired. When asked, every child will say they enjoy going to school. It's not taken for granted in Uganda. Education is a gift that not everyone receives.
