Youth Conference

August 21-23, our church hosted a youth conference. Youth came from all over central Uganda. We had around 150 youth total. Each day included Bible studies as well as a time for worship. Worship at a Ugandan youth conference means LOUD speakers and lots of dancing. Music is a major part of Ugandan culture. Therefore, the youth love praising their Savior. Each church took turns leading praise and worship, as well as performing choirs. The theme of this conference was Philipians 3:14.
The two girls pictured below, are a couple to my closest friends from the village. They both go to a boarding school, so having them here for youth conference was so special!

This young lady and I have grown closer these past two months than we have ever been. She lives with lots of siblings, and when she comes to church or youth group she is ready for some attention. I get to be that lucky person who listens to her and makes sure she feels loved.
We ate every meal with the youth at church. The morning started off with a full cup of steaming hot porridge. I mean this stuff will quite literally burn your mouth!

Let's be honest, I held this little girl almost all afternoon!

We were at church from 9 in the morning til 9 at night. We attempted to take pictures at night with one of the younger girls at the conference. You can barely make out her face above Emalai's. She just laughed at me as I was determined to get her beautiful face to show up in my picture. We tried about eight times.

Two year olds are not quite youth yet. However, Makai did attend some of the conference. On the way back to the conference, I told Makai I would buy him some candy; which ended up including cookies and a soda as well. He was so cute on the way to this road side shop. He proudly held his money and repeatedly said "Candy store" on the way.

A few full motorcycles and one full truck took all the youth back to their various villages on the evening of August 23. Some of the motorcycles had to make multiple trips to a certain village, Amuria, the next day as they ran out of daylight on the scheduled departure day.

Here are just some fun pictures we took in the middle of the road after bringing Makai to the "candy store" another day. There were a few people laughing at us.
